Signs You Might Have Low Testosterone

Dec 01, 2021

According to the Cleveland Clinic, about 40% of men 45 years and older are affected by low testosterone issues. While it's a bit difficult to define the range of normal testosterone levels, there are signs that might point to abnormally low testosterone levels. Here are signs that you might have low testosterone.

What Are the Normal Levels of Testosterone?

It is a bit difficult to define the normal levels of testosterone because of a number of factors. For instance, levels of testosterone in the body are always changing because of your body mass index, nutrition, medications, and, in some instances, alcohol consumption.

Erectile Issues

Testosterone is essential for getting and maintaining an erection. While it is not the only factor affecting erections, testosterone stimulates certain receptors in the brain to produce nitric oxide. This molecule helps set in motion a series of chemical reactions that are needed for an erection to occur. So, when you have low testosterone, nitric oxide will not be produced in sufficient amounts to help you maintain an erection. While the role played by testosterone is not understood further than nitric oxide, it has been shown that treatment with testosterone helps men with erection difficulties.

Fatigue

In men, there is evidence that extreme fatigue and low energy levels are observed as a sign of low testosterone. So, if you are feeling tired all the time but at the same time having adequate sleep, it could be a sign of low levels of testosterone. You may also find it harder to get the motivation to exercise. If you notice this, it is advisable to go see a men's health specialist and find out if you can benefit from low testosterone therapy.

Loss of Hair

Apart from helping with sexual function, testosterone also plays a role in several physiological processes. For instance, while loss of hair is part of normal aging in men, it has been shown that men with low testosterone tend to lose their body and facial hair earlier than those with normal levels. This has led to the conclusion that loss of hair might be a sign of low levels of testosterone.

If you notice any of these signs, you might be dealing with a low testosterone situation. Fortunately, this problem can be addressed by low testosterone therapy. If you need help with low testosterone therapy, get in touch with us today.
